City of Edmonton Archives

The City of Edmonton Archives is a public research facility housing civic government and private records documenting Edmonton's history.  We are located in the Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre

This online catalogue features digitized archival photographs and finding aids to our fonds and collections. Although we're always adding content, it's still only a fraction of our holdings and we encourage you to contact the Archives with your research questions.

Wondering what a fonds is? Check out our glossary!

Plan your visit to the City of Edmonton Archives - we've written some tips and hints to help you get the most out of your archival experience.

Exhibits

Visit our exhibits at the Prince of Wales Armouries!

The Edmonton Incline Railway

Learn the story of our city's shortest railway! Operating between Ross Flats and downtown, the 230 foot long Edmonton Incline Railway was only in business from 1908 to 1911.

The Edmonton Valley Zoo

Since it opened in 1959 the Edmonton Valley Zoo has been a landmark in our city. The Valley Zoo's administrative records have recently been processed and are now available to researchers at the City of Edmonton Archives. Come and see a small glimpse of the records that are now available!

The Photographer's Eye

Featuring the work of photographer Chris Bruun.

The Photographer's Eye is an exuberant look at Edmonton through the camera lens of this unpretentious professional photographer.

Chris Bruun has spent a lifetime learning and honing his craft. He has created and contributed a significant collection of images documenting life within the city. His images represent a diverse and occasionally surprising perspective.

This exhibit was made possible in part by an Archives Society of Alberta grant.
